KidSpeak Learning Center is only 6 miles from downtown New Orleans, and less than a mile from the banks of the Mississippi River. We are located in the charming old historic district of Gretna, Louisiana, founded in 1836. Gretna is the Jefferson Parish (County) seat. It shares much of the same culture and architecture that is found in New Orleans. Within minutes, residents can travel from quiet oak-lined residential streets to the tourist, business and industrial centers of the region. The oak-lined streets and architectural styles of the 1800s add to the school’s own warmth and welcoming atmosphere.
The “shot-gun” house that KidSpeak occupies has been renovated to become an ideal learning environment for children. Each classroom is acoustically sound with an abundance of bright, cheerful furnishings. Anti-static carpeting eliminates any static electricity that may naturally occur as this could erase the “mapping” of a cochlear implant. For added safety, there is an extra loud fire alarm system.
The playground provides ample space for play and exploration and has a covered area for an “outside” center area where children can role play in a kitchen area or have fun with a water and sand table.
Hot lunches and snacks are provided daily in the multi-purpose room. Here, teachers facilitate lunchtime conversations among the children, using this time to foster strong oral communication skills.
Parents have easy access to the facility from two streets and are issued a security code for entering the building.
